OCEANS 🌊 are symbols of wisdom & knowledge to me. Waves, lived experiences & self mastery. Oceans alone can comfort like early primal womb space all gestate before being. Salient sources of inspiration and awe amazing IG photography LOL.
It was a deep dive at the Jung Center in Houston,Texas in 2004Â that I concluded one of my primary archetypes was the Mermaid. Since that day forward I keep a dream journal and highly recommend it to any creators to tap into their own personal imagery.
It was in recent years I learned that archetype no longer served me. What was the premise of Mermaid mythology in cultural narratives and mass media?Â
A woman's voice should be sequestered (NO!), her body a place for shipwrecked souls to gaze, an object that drifts for being human at the cost of being seen and not heard or hidden. Employing that archetype for feminine energy is a paradoxical argument. (but that’s a whole-arse workshop over at THE SLOW DIVE lol.)Â
THIS: Self-contained, sovereign and self-possessed.
Oceans akin to our sub consciousness, Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell extracted to correlate the universal patterns and imagery that we project from our inner worlds - so subtle yet evident to the masterful eye that picks up on patterns. In Islam and Sufism, Oceans represent untapped wisdom, divine consciousness and ascending in one’s faith.
There is a whole world of understanding to our psyche right there. Why do we do what we do? Why do we like what we like? How do we arrive at those conclusions- the quest to deepen the understanding of oneself. Self-focused, not self-absorbed or self-centered for the purpose of creating better solutions and art.
Besides the archetypal world of Oceans and inhabitants that we adore, Oceans offer a source of sustenance, commerce and home to marine life. The Blue Economy is another area where we can be more impactful consumers and supportive community builders. Climate, Community and Commerce hinge on our proactive careful practices.Â
What are you doing to be proactive?
